Washington's 9th congressional district spans from Auburn and Federal Way in the south to Seattle and Bellevue in the north. The area covers communities of different sizes, from suburban neighborhoods to urban centers.
The district was created following the 1990 census with Mike Kreidler as its first representative. Later, Randy Tate served before Adam Smith took office starting in 1997.
The district represents a population mix of 40.6% White, 23.6% Asian, 14.3% Hispanic, 12% Black, and additional ethnic groups across Western Washington.
