Stadium High School, French Renaissance high school in Stadium District, Tacoma, United States.
Stadium High School is a secondary school in the Stadium District of Tacoma, housed in a historic stone building. The facade displays arched windows and several towers, while the complex sits on a steep slope above Commencement Bay.
Construction began in 1891 as a hotel project, but after a fire in 1898 the Tacoma School District acquired the property. Conversion into an educational facility took place in the early 20th century, and the school opened its doors to students shortly after.
The building takes its name from the nearby football stadium and now serves as a public school for teenagers from across the city. The campus regularly attracts film crews who shoot scenes here, making the grounds a recognizable location in popular culture.
The complex sits on a hillside overlooking the water and can be reached via several staircases that bridge the elevation change. Visitors can view the grounds from the outside but should note that access may be limited during school hours on weekdays.
The building served as a filming location for several movie productions, including a well-known teen comedy from the 1990s. In 2006, nearly thirty-three hundred former students gathered here for an anniversary, setting a world record for school reunions.
