Qualicum Beach

Qualicum Beach is a coastal town on the Strait of Georgia along the northeastern shore of Vancouver Island, featuring long stretches of sandy beaches backed by wooded areas. The waterfront transitions into residential neighborhoods and local services spread throughout the town.

European explorers made the area known in the 1850s, and a road from Nanaimo was constructed in the 1890s to connect the communities. These early transportation links enabled the settlement to grow and establish itself as a coastal town.

The name comes from a Pentlatch word meaning where dog salmon spawn, and you can still feel the connection to water and fishing traditions in how locals relate to the ocean.

The town is accessible by the Island Highway and has local airport facilities for visitors arriving by air. Parking near the beaches can be limited during summer months, so arriving early is helpful for waterfront activities.

A botanical garden with old-growth trees and rare rhododendrons showcases the natural plant diversity of the area. The presence of a historic golf course dating back over a century reveals that the community has long attracted visitors seeking leisure activities.
