Mount Constitution

Mount Constitution is a mountain summit in Moran State Park on Orcas Island that rises about 730 meters above sea level. From its peak, you can see across the San Juan Islands, the Olympic Mountains, and the surrounding waters below.

A stone observation tower was built at the summit during the 1930s as part of the Civilian Conservation Corps projects in Washington. This structure emerged during a period when the nation was developing its park system across the country.

The mountain takes its name from the United States Constitution, reflecting how early settlers honored American ideals through their place names in the Pacific Northwest. This naming choice shows the patriotic values that shaped the region's identity.

Several hiking trails lead to the summit, with routes varying in length through forest paths. Starting early in the day and wearing proper footwear helps make the climb more manageable for most visitors.

The stone observation tower at the top offers a 360-degree view that extends to Canada on clear days. The tower was positioned so it stands out distinctly against the sky when you approach the summit.
