Maple Ridge, Administrative city in Metro Vancouver, Canada
Maple Ridge is a city in Metro Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, positioned between the Fraser River and the forested slopes of the Coast Mountains. The municipality covers lowland areas near the river as well as upland neighborhoods that climb toward the mountain foothills, combining residential zones with farmland and protected green spaces.
The community gained municipal status in 1874 when small groups of families settled along the Fraser River. In 2014 the district transitioned to city status, while original settlement patterns remain visible in older neighborhoods today.
The Arts Centre and Theatre hosts performances while maintaining connections to European, East Asian, South Asian, and Indigenous communities within its population.
The city sits east of downtown Vancouver and can be reached by bridges crossing the Fraser River. Visitors wanting to explore rural areas will find trails and access to forested zones north of the main roads.
The Port Hammond neighborhood preserves timber-frame houses from the era when sawmills shaped the local economy. These structures once housed workers in the lumber industry and display the building style of the early industrial period.
