Kent, Metropolitan city in King County, Washington, United States
Kent is a city in King County, Washington, and covers three main sections: West Hill with residential areas, the valley with commercial and industrial zones, and East Hill with more neighborhoods. The total area reaches about 34 square miles (88 km²) and includes parks, business districts, and several school zones.
Settlers arrived in the area in 1853 along the White River and began farming there. The place received its name in 1889 after the English county, and during the 1960s the economy shifted from agriculture to aerospace work.
The city center keeps traces of its agricultural roots in several parks and small community gardens that residents continue to tend. Families from many parts of Asia, Latin America and Africa have settled here and now shape local shops, restaurants and neighborhood gatherings.
The city sits south of Seattle and can be reached by highways, commuter trains, and bus lines. Visitors driving in will find several parking areas and shopping centers across different neighborhoods with good connections.
The city hosts numerous large warehouses and distribution centers that make it a key hub for logistics companies. Many international firms have built facilities here to supply goods across the Pacific Northwest.
