SeaTac, Transportation hub in King County, United States
SeaTac is a city in King County, Washington, built around the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and positioned between the two larger urban centers. Business buildings, hotels and retail strips line wide boulevards near the runways, which dominate much of the developed area.
The community was formed in 1990 by merging several smaller settlements that had grown on either side of the airport property. The name combines the first syllables of neighboring Seattle and Tacoma into a single word.
The population of 31,454 residents represents multiple ethnicities, with substantial White, African American, Asian, and Hispanic communities contributing to local festivals.
The airport offers connections to regional trains, local buses, and the highway running through the city. Several parks sit at the edges and can be reached on foot from residential neighborhoods.
A ballot measure in 2013 established a fifteen-dollar hourly minimum wage for airport businesses, which drew attention nationwide. Other cities in the state later adopted similar policies.
