Highline Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in SeaTac, Washington.
Highline Botanical Garden is an 11-acre property with a central stream running through it that flows into a large pond, surrounded by diverse plant collections organized throughout the grounds. Winding pathways lead visitors through different garden areas and showcase various plant species and landscape designs.
The garden began as a private property owned by the Behm family that was relocated in 2000 by 200 volunteers to prevent it from being demolished for airport expansion. This remarkable rescue effort allowed the original garden concept to be preserved and made accessible to the public.
The Japanese Seike Garden here features authentic traditional design elements such as bridges and carefully shaped pines that reflect the gardening traditions of Hiroshima. Visitors can observe how these traditional features are woven throughout the space to create a peaceful atmosphere.
The garden is easy to access and offers free admission, allowing visitors to come anytime. The pathways are well-laid out and suitable for casual strolls with family members of all ages.
A specialized Sensory Garden area features rain gardens and vine tunnels where plants are selected specifically for their fragrance and texture. Visitors can engage their senses and experience an unusual garden interaction here.
