The museum opened in 1927 through the donation of businessman Horace C. Henry, who contributed 178 artworks from his personal collection.
The gallery maintains a collection of 28,000 objects, including historical photographs and textiles from the former University of Washington Costume Study Center.
Visitors can explore the museum Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with extended hours until 9:00 PM on Thursdays.
The Light Reign installation by James Turrell contains a retractable roof that opens to frame the sky, similar to Seattle's baseball stadium.
