Joffre Lakes Provincial Park

Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is a protected area in Squamish-Lillooet, British Columbia, centered around three alpine lakes. The lakes sit at successive elevations connected by a trail that winds through forest sections and exposed rocky slopes.

The recreation area was established in 1988 and converted to full provincial park status eight years later. This conversion brought stricter protection measures and new management structures for visitation.

The upper lake sits at the edge of a large glacial basin where hikers often pause to watch ice chunks floating on the surface during warmer months. The water maintains its distinctive turquoise shade throughout summer when glacial melt flows most actively into the drainage system.

A reservation confirmation must be secured online before visiting since there is no mobile network coverage at the parking area. The path to the third lake climbs steadily and requires sturdy footwear for changing ground conditions.

The glacier casts a continuous shadow over the water from the highest lake during early morning hours. The sediment load shifts the visibility depth depending on the time of day and the rate of ice melting.
