Death Valley, National park in California/Nevada

Death Valley is a desert valley located within the Mojave Desert and is known as the hottest place on earth.

The Timbisha tribe inhabited the valley for close to a thousand years before it was discovered by U.S. settlers in 1849 during the Gold Rush.

Despite its harsh climate, Death Valley has been home to various cultures, including the Shoshone Indians, and has several ghost towns from mining eras.

Visitors are advised to carry plenty of water due to extreme temperatures, especially in summer.

It holds the record for the highest recorded temperature on Earth at 56.7°C (134°F).
