Mist Trail, Historic hiking trail in Yosemite National Park, US

The Mist Trail starts at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley and climbs beside the Merced River past Vernal Fall and Emerald Pool to Nevada Fall. Near Vernal Fall the route crosses a sheer granite face on steps cut into the rock, with a single guard rail; the 1930s WPA work improved this section. The path is bare rock and packed earth, edged by a metal railing and low stone border where the slope drops.

The trail's granite steps beside Vernal Fall were improved by Works Progress Administration crews in the 1930s. The route lies within the Yosemite Valley historic district, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 14 December 2006 as a contributing property.

This path connects two popular waterfalls and draws hikers from around the world seeking to experience Yosemite's natural landscape. Visitors notice how the trail brings people from different backgrounds together.

The trail climbs 300 m to the top of Vernal Fall over 1.95 km from Happy Isles, and 610 m to Nevada Fall over 4.35 km. The granite steps beside Vernal Fall are often drenched by spray in spring; raingear helps. The John Muir Trail offers a less steep descent.

The trail's granite steps were improved during Works Progress Administration projects in the 1930s. Beside Vernal Fall the spray drenches hikers in spring, and this is one of the few places where a complete circular rainbow can be seen.
