Mount Wilson is the highest peak in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, rising to 2,121 metres in the Spring Mountains west of Las Vegas. Its upper mass is pale grey and tan rock with steep, fractured faces and narrow white streaks in the crevices near the top. Below the crest, horizontal bands of reddish and pinkish rock alternate with grey stone, and loose grey and brown scree covers the lower slopes.

Mount Wilson lies in the Spring Mountains on Bureau of Land Management land within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and it is the highest peak in that conservation area. Its summit reaches 2,121 metres, about 195 metres above the surrounding terrain, roughly 27 km west of downtown Las Vegas. The sandstone cliffs above First Creek Canyon are reached from the First Creek trailhead, and at least two third-class routes continue to the top.

Mount Wilson lies within the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness Area of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Hikers reach its sandstone cliffs from the First Creek trailhead, heading west into First Creek Canyon, where at least two third-class routes continue to the summit.

Visitors should bring sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water, especially during warmer months. The best time to visit is from October through April when temperatures are more comfortable.

On clear days, the summit offers sweeping views across the entire Las Vegas Valley and several other mountain peaks. From this elevated vantage point, visitors can see Indecision Peak, Rainbow Mountain, and surrounding ridges.
