Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is a 528-acre preserve adjoining Red Rock Canyon, with desert scrub and pinyon-juniper woodlands covering the landscape. The property includes a main ranch house and several outbuildings that span different periods of construction.

Buildings on the property date to the 1860s, and ownership changed hands multiple times, including German actress Vera Krupp and later Howard Hughes. These changes in ownership shaped how the place developed and was maintained over time.

The park offers programs where people in period dress show how early settlers lived and worked in this remote desert location. Visitors can observe these demonstrations while walking through the historic buildings and grounds.

The park is easy to navigate with marked pathways connecting the main house and outbuildings throughout the grounds. Visitors should prepare for desert conditions and bring plenty of water to stay comfortable during their visit.

Archaeological findings show human presence at this spring-fed location spanning more than 10,000 years of occupation. This makes it one of the longest continuously inhabited areas in Nevada with a history that reaches deep into ancient times.
