Cal Neva Lodge & Casino, Lakefront resort at Crystal Bay, California-Nevada border
Cal Neva Lodge & Casino is a lakeside hotel in Crystal Bay sitting directly on the state line between California and Nevada. The multi-story building sits on the north shore of the lake with rooms on both sides of the border.
An entertainer purchased the property in 1960 and expanded it with additional facilities. The gambling license was later forfeited after connections to criminal organizations became known.
The name combines "California" and "Nevada" to reflect the property's location straddling both states. Guests can stand in two states at once by following painted floor markers throughout the building.
The hotel remained closed from 2013 to 2023 and was acquired by a Denver real estate company. Visitors should check the current status before planning a visit, as renovation work may affect access.
A famous film actress spent her last weekend here in August 1962. The property attracted numerous entertainment figures during the 1960s.
