Le Crotoy, Coastal commune in Somme, France

Le Crotoy stands on the eastern side of the Somme Bay, featuring a south-facing beach that extends into protected waters filled with seals and birds.

The fortress of Le Crotoy held Joan of Arc as prisoner in 1430 before her transfer to Rouen, marking a significant moment in French medieval history.

The French writer Jules Verne composed Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea while residing at Villa La Solitude in Le Crotoy from 1865 to 1870.

The narrow gauge railway Chemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme connects Le Crotoy to neighboring towns from March through October with steam locomotive service.

The local fishing fleet maintains the tradition of shrimping using specialized boats called seutréliers, contributing to the regional maritime heritage.
