St Peter's Church, Le Crotoy

St Peter's Church stands with its massive sandstone bell tower and brick walls along the Somme bay coastline at Le Crotoy. The building features a nave with side aisles and holds a remarkable fifteenth-century wooden altarpiece depicting scenes from the life of Saint Honore.

The building was constructed between 1850 and 1865, replacing a medieval two-nave structure while preserving the thirteenth-century bell tower. It received official recognition as a historical monument in 2019.

The interior displays votive offerings left by fishermen and sailors, expressing gratitude for safe returns from the sea. These personal objects show how deeply the local community's life is tied to maritime work.

The church sits on Rue de l'Impératrice in central Le Crotoy, within easy walking distance from the harbor. Visitors should note that the sandstone can be slippery in wet weather, and the building occasionally closes for private events.

The interior holds nineteenth-century ship models crafted by local artisans, displayed alongside the votive offerings. These detailed replicas represent the diverse vessels that historically operated from the coastal waters.
