Vogüé, Medieval village in Ardèche, France.

Vogüé is a village on the Ardèche river that forms a natural amphitheater along limestone cliffs. Stone houses are stacked in tiers above the riverbanks, creating a tightly woven settlement.

The Château des Seigneurs de Vogüé with its four round towers was built in the medieval period and has dominated the village ever since. The castle remains the defining landmark of the settlement.

The Romanesque chapel displays stained glass by Alfred Manessier that merges medieval design with contemporary art. You can experience this blend directly as colored light plays across the interior walls.

The village sits on a popular cycling route, the Via Ardèche, which follows the river for long stretches. You can easily reach neighboring settlements by bike from here.

Rue des Puces is a medieval street with vaulted arcades where ancient wells are built into the house walls. These wells show how residents historically managed water access in the settlement.
