Maison de la Magie

The Maison de la Magie is a museum housed in a historic building across from Blois's Royal Castle, displaying magic equipment, mechanical figures, and optical illusions across multiple floors. The collection features original objects and reconstructed period rooms that showcase the craft and history of magic.

The building was created by and served as the home of Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin, an influential magician of the 19th century. Decades after his death, his family handed over the property to the town to be preserved and opened to visitors.

The building was the home and workshop of a celebrated 19th-century magician, and visitors can see his personal living spaces with original furniture and belongings. Walking through these rooms gives a sense of how a practicing illusionist organized his daily life and craft.

The museum sits directly across from the town's famous castle, making it easy to locate and visit as part of your tour. Arriving early allows you to move through the exhibits at a comfortable pace and take in all the details on display.

A mechanical dragon head emerges from the building's windows at regular intervals, extending dramatically across the facade in an unexpected display. This automated sculpture serves as a playful greeting to passersby and a reminder of the magic inside.
