Theodore Deck museum

The Theodore Deck Museum is an art collection in Guebwiller that focuses on ceramics from the 19th century. The display features handcrafted plates, vases, and wall tiles created during that period.

The collection was founded in the early 20th century and brings together works that document the development of regional ceramic art. The move to the neoclassical Grand Doyenné building in the early 1980s gave the museum its current home.

The museum is named after the renowned ceramicist whose distinctive work shaped the local art scene. Throughout the rooms, you can see how his techniques influenced the region's craft tradition.

The museum sits in the center of Guebwiller and is easy to reach on foot. It is open to visitors from Wednesday through Sunday, with closures on Monday morning and all day Tuesday.

The collection displays a distinctive turquoise-blue glazed ceramic made according to a formula by the museum's namesake that exists nowhere else in this form. This characteristic coloring was achieved through a special technique that remained a secret for many years.
