Château d'Ardenne

Château d'Ardenne is a castle situated north of the village overlooking the Charente Valley. The structure features a distinctive round tower and stands amid vineyards in a rolling landscape.

The castle began around 1100 as a single tower and was expanded into a complete structure during the early 16th century by the Nourrigier lords. This transformation made it a major residence in the region.

The castle displays architectural features from different periods that visitors can observe throughout their visit. The spaces and walls reflect the changing tastes and needs of its successive residents over time.

The castle is protected as a French Historical Monument and has not been open to the public for some time. Following recent renovations, it is expected to open for visitors soon, so it is wise to check current conditions before planning a visit.

A round dovecote from 1717 stands on the grounds and displays an inscribed date on its entrance pediment. This small structure was built by a musketeer and remains a rare example of such outbuildings from that era.
