Château des Seigneurs de la Brigue

The Château des Seigneurs de la Brigue is a stone fortification built on elevated ground in La Brigue. The ruins still preserve walls and structural elements dating from the 12th and 14th centuries.

The Vintimille family built this fortress in the late 14th century as a strategic stronghold against regional threats. It played an important role in defending local territory over several centuries.

The castle displays a blend of French and Italian building styles that reflect this border region's history. These influences are visible in the walls and stonework, which show centuries-old construction techniques.

The site can be reached on foot via a marked path from the village center, with parking available near the town hall. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the ground is uneven and the climb becomes steep in places.

The fortress survived a powerful earthquake in 1564 and later resisted an attack from outside forces. Despite these ordeals, the ruins still display impressive structural remains.
