Hôtel de Fontenay, Private mansion in Marais district, Paris, France.

The Hôtel de Fontenay is a private mansion in Paris's 3rd arrondissement located on rue des Francs-Bourgeois. It spans five levels with ornamental entrance doors, a decorated balcony with iron railings, and currently houses sections of the National Archives.

The mansion was constructed between 1720 and 1753 under architect Jacques Vinage's direction. After completion, it subsequently served as office space for the General Control of Finances administration.

The mansion displays both Rocaille and Neoclassical design elements, reflecting the tastes of its original owners. Inside, visitors can observe ornamental details from Nicolas Pineau that shaped the visual character of Parisian elite homes in this era.

The building is accessible via modern elevators installed to serve all five floors. Access may be limited since the property functions partly as National Archives administrative space.

The facade features an unusual convex curve rather than the flat front seen on neighboring townhouses. This distinctive shape makes it stand out as one of the street's most notably designed structures.

Location: 3rd arrondissement of Paris

Part of: Archives nationales
