Château de Polisy, Renaissance castle in Polisy, France
Château de Polisy is a Renaissance castle in the Champagne region with two courtyards surrounded by entrance wings, barns, stables, and other service buildings within its medieval stone walls. The entire complex includes separate residential quarters and creates an organized layout with distinct functional zones.
Jean de Dintenville, ambassador of François I to England, transformed the original fortified house into a Renaissance residence between 1537 and 1555. This renovation made it an important example of French architectural style during that period.
Artists from the French court, including Primatice and Dominique Florentin, who worked at Fontainebleau, contributed to the castle's artistic elements.
The castle is currently undergoing extensive restoration work, with efforts focused on waterproofing and structural reinforcement across the complex. Visitors should expect that certain areas may have limited access due to ongoing preservation work.
A portion of the original majolica floor from 1545 inscribed with the words FIDES SPES CHARITAS is now housed in the National Museum of the Renaissance. This valuable fragment demonstrates the artistic refinement that was applied to the castle's original finishes.
