Grottes de Blanot, Show cave system in Blanot, France

Grottes de Blanot is a show cave system near Blanot featuring multiple limestone galleries carved out by underground water over geological time. The chambers contain various mineral formations created through natural chemical and mechanical processes.

The caves were first thoroughly explored and documented in 1739 by a physician who recognized their geological interest. These early investigations established them as an important site for understanding regional rock formations and underground water processes.

The Cailleverdière Association maintains these caves, organizing guided tours that educate visitors about the regional geology and natural heritage.

Access to the cave system is by guided tour, primarily offered during the warmer months. Wear a jacket since underground temperatures stay cool throughout the year.

An adjacent cave system contains fossils of ancient animals and prehistoric tools discovered during excavations. These findings reveal that people inhabited or used these underground spaces thousands of years ago.
