Orem is a city in Utah County in the state of Utah, extending along the eastern shore of Utah Lake at the base of the Wasatch Range at an elevation near 1455 meters (4770 feet). Its streets follow a grid pattern with wide lanes and intersections lined with supermarkets, gas stations, and residential neighborhoods of single-family homes.
The settlement began in 1877 as a railway stop originally called Provo Bench before being renamed in honor of railroad entrepreneur Walter C. Orem. Over the decades it developed into a city with its own administration and grew steadily toward the mountains.
Utah Valley University brings thousands of students into town and shapes the daily rhythm and character of many neighborhoods. Walking through the streets, you often see young people, cafes, and shops tailored to this community.
