Utah County, Administrative county in northern-central Utah, United States
Utah County is an administrative division in north-central Utah that stretches from valley floors to mountain ridges, encompassing Utah Lake along its western edge. The terrain rises from open lowlands to the high peaks of the Wasatch Range, mixing flat farmland with steep forested slopes.
The territorial legislature created this administrative division in 1851 as one of seven initial counties under the provisional state of Deseret. The area later became part of the state of Utah and kept its boundaries largely unchanged over time.
The county includes Provo, which hosts Brigham Young University, making the area a center for higher education in the state of Utah.
Interstate 15 runs north to south through the entire area, offering direct access to Salt Lake City to the north. Visitors will find flat roads near the valley floor and winding mountain roads at higher elevations.
The population median age of 23 years makes Utah County demographically distinct, ranking among the youngest populations in the United States.
