Lone Peak, Mountain summit in Salt Lake County, United States.
Lone Peak is a mountain summit in the Wasatch Range east of Salt Lake City, rising to approximately 11,250 feet. The peak features steep rocky cliffs, rugged terrain, and offers expansive views across the surrounding mountain landscape.
The peak gained recognition from early surveyors and received its name due to its isolated and distinctive position within the Wasatch Range. Documented ascents of the summit began in the late 1800s by local climbers from the Salt Lake City area.
The mountain stands at the center of the Lone Peak Wilderness, established in 1978 as part of Utah's first congressionally designated wilderness area.
The Jacob's Ladder Trail offers the most direct route to the summit but requires climbing experience and skill on steep sections. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and bring sturdy footwear plus appropriate climbing equipment.
The peak consists of quartz monzonite rock that formed approximately 30 million years ago, giving the summit a distinctive texture and appearance. This rock type creates the interesting formations that climbers encounter throughout their ascent.
