Lauritz Smith House

Lauritz Smith House is a Colonial Revival residence with a modified saltbox shape located at 1350 East 12400 South. The front shows two full stories while the rear slopes down in the traditional saltbox manner.

The house was built in 1865 during the early Mormon settlement period in Utah Territory. It stands as one of the earliest examples of New England architectural influence in the region.

The house shows how settlers from New England adapted their building styles to the Utah landscape. You can see this in the side chimneys instead of central ones, which allowed more interior space.

This registered National Historic Place is located in Draper within the Salt Lake Valley. The address 1350 East 12400 South makes it straightforward for visitors to locate the house.

It is one of only about four known saltbox houses in all of Utah, making it a rare architectural example. This building type was common in New England but rarely replicated in Utah.
