Wasatch Mountain State Park, Nature reserve in Wasatch County, Utah, United States.
Wasatch Mountain State Park is a state park in the Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah, set above the Heber Valley. The terrain covers conifer forests, open mountain meadows, and several ridges linked by a network of dirt roads and trails that run across different elevations.
The area entered the Utah State Parks system in 1961, making it one of the first dedicated recreation areas to receive official protection in the state. Over the following decades, roads, campgrounds, and facilities were added as the park grew into the multi-use destination it is today.
The park is deeply connected to local life in the Heber Valley, where nearby communities have long looked to this mountain area for recreation close to home. On weekends, the trails and campgrounds fill with families from the surrounding towns, giving the place a relaxed, neighborhood feel rather than a remote wilderness.
The park is accessible by car throughout the year, though higher roads can be icy or snow-covered in winter, so a four-wheel-drive or chains may be useful. Once inside, distances between zones are large enough that driving from one area to another saves considerable time.
The park is one of the few in Utah that operates golf courses within its boundaries, an unusual feature for a mountain nature area. These courses sit inside the mountain meadows, offering a playing experience quite different from a typical urban course.
