Jordanelle Reservoir, Recreational reservoir in Wasatch County, United States.
Jordanelle Reservoir is a large water body in Wasatch County north of Heber City that stores water from the Provo River. Three developed recreation areas—Hailstone, Rock Cliff, and Ross Creek—provide camping, boating, fishing, and other water activities along its shoreline.
Construction of the dam from 1987 to 1993 submerged three towns and required rerouting of major highways in the area. This project was a significant undertaking that shaped the landscape and infrastructure of Wasatch County.
The reservoir's name recalls the town that now rests beneath its waters, serving as a reminder of the communities displaced by the project. Today, interpretive signs along the shoreline tell visitors about the settlements that were relocated to create this water body.
Each of the three recreation areas has different facilities and focuses, so checking ahead helps you choose the best spot for your plans. The area is accessible year-round, though summer is the peak season for water activities and camping.
Summer months bring organized triathlon and marathon events that use the surrounding terrain for competitive racing and training. These sporting occasions draw athletes from across the region who take advantage of the varied landscape.
