West Jordan extends along the western bank of the Jordan River at an elevation of 1,333 meters in Salt Lake County, Utah.

The settlement began in 1849 when Mormon pioneers established mills near the Jordan River, including the first sawmill built by Archibald Gardner.

The Gardner Village shopping district preserves the renovated structures of early industrial buildings, connecting modern commerce with the city's industrial heritage.

The central government services area includes City Hall at 8000 South Redwood Road, the Justice Center, and Fire Station 52.

The city borders the Kennecott Copper Mine, which stands as the largest human-made excavation on Earth.
