Blue Heart Springs, Thermal spring in Hagerman Valley, Idaho, US.
Blue Heart Springs is a natural thermal source in Hagerman Valley whose heart-shaped cove contains pure water flowing from the Snake River Aquifer through layers of sand and gravel. The spring continuously feeds this water from underground sources, creating a dynamic natural system surrounded by dark lava rock formations.
The natural cove formed roughly 15,000 years ago during the Bonneville Flood, when a massive whirlpool carved through the bedrock and tapped into the aquifer below. Water has continuously risen from that underground source at this same location ever since.
The crystal-clear waters draw visitors who come to experience the natural setting framed by dark lava rock walls and observe birds and fish in their habitat. The spring has become a destination where people connect with the landscape in a quiet way.
Reaching the springs requires kayak or paddleboard access from an upstream starting point, with the downstream paddle taking roughly 30 minutes. Plan to be comfortable on the water and bring appropriate gear, as river conditions can vary with weather and water flow.
The water maintains a constant temperature of roughly 15 degrees Celsius year-round, with visible sand bubbles continuously rising from the underground water currents below. These bubbles offer a fascinating window into how actively water circulates from deep sources.
