QT Canberra, Hotel building in Canberra, Australia
QT Canberra is a multi-storey hotel building on London Circuit in central Canberra, Australia, with rooms that open onto balconies facing either Lake Burley Griffin or the city. The building also holds a wood-fired restaurant, a fitness center, and spaces used for events and conferences.
The building was put up by Mainline Corporation in the early 1970s and first opened in November 1972 under the name Lakeside Hotel. Over the following decades it passed through several owners and changed names more than once before becoming what it is today.
Throughout the building, rotating artworks by local Australian artists hang in corridors and shared spaces, giving the place a gallery-like feel as you move through it. Guests often come across new pieces without looking for them, which makes the visit feel a little different each time.
The hotel sits on London Circuit in central Canberra, within walking distance of most main attractions, so moving around on foot is easy. Visiting the nearby lake makes for a good way to get your bearings when you first arrive in the area.
Although the building was originally named after the nearby lake, many of its rooms actually face the city rather than the water. The original name gave a slightly misleading picture of where most guests would end up looking out from their windows.
