Opprebais Castle

Opprebais Castle is a four-sided fortress with two round towers at its front, constructed from local quartzite and sandstone materials. The structure retains its original form and stands in the village of Incourt in Wallonia.

The fortress was built in the 13th century as a military stronghold for the Duchy of Brabant. During the 17th century, it was repurposed as a farmhouse and lost its defensive role.

The castle sits beside the Romanesque church of Saint-Aubain, and together they form a protected heritage site that speaks to how secular and religious power coexisted in this village.

The castle is located within the village of Incourt and is easy to find while walking through the area. The setting sits on gentle ground, making it pleasant to explore the exterior from different angles.

The southern side of the structure shows traces of a square donjon that hints at its earlier form. The front facade also preserves remnants of an ancient drawbridge mechanism that reveals how it once protected against intruders.
