Hill Air Force Base, Military air base in Davis and Weber Counties, United States.
Hill Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation in northern Utah used for maintenance and repair of military aircraft. The facility covers a large area between Salt Lake City and Ogden and includes hangars, workshops, runways, and military housing.
The base opened in 1940 as Hill Field to support the growing military aviation fleet during World War II. During the war years, tens of thousands of civilian and military personnel worked there maintaining and upgrading combat aircraft.
The museum on the grounds displays more than eighty aircraft and other military equipment arranged in hangars and outdoor spaces. Visitors can walk through exhibits documenting different eras of American aviation.
The grounds are mostly closed to the public, but the museum can be reached without military access. Visitors should bring valid identification and allow time to explore the different exhibition areas.
Part of the grounds borders a large desert testing area where military exercises with live ammunition take place. Few places in the country allow such realistic training scenarios so close to an active base.
