Dempsey Store, Heritage commercial building in North York, Toronto, Canada
The two-story Dempsey Store features Georgian architecture with symmetrical windows, classic proportions, and a restored nineteenth-century storefront at 250 Beecroft Road.
Built in 1860 as a hardware store at Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue, the structure was relocated to its current location in 1996 for preservation.
The building represents the evolution of retail spaces in Toronto, combining residential and commercial functions common in nineteenth-century rural Ontario.
The Toronto Parks Division and North York Historical Society maintain the property, which received heritage designation status on December 17, 1998.
The structure stands as one of the few examples of Georgian Survival style with Neo-Classical elements in Toronto's commercial architecture.
