Listowel, Former town in North Perth, Ontario, Canada
Listowel is a former town in North Perth, Ontario, Canada, now functioning as a residential area with shops and public facilities spread across roughly 7 square kilometers. The streets follow a simple grid, with the center surrounded by housing neighborhoods and smaller commercial zones.
The settlement began in 1852 under the name Mapleton and received its current name in 1856, growing into a small town by 1875. It later merged with other communities to form the larger municipality of North Perth.
Its name comes from an Irish town in County Kerry and reflects the origins of many early settlers. The community center now sits quietly among residential streets, where shops and services line the main road.
The area is reachable by rural highways and suitable for driving through the flat landscape of southwestern Ontario. Parking is available in front of most shops and public buildings in the center.
The Listowel Cyclones hockey team plays at the local arena and draws a local crowd on game nights. The arena also serves as a meeting point for various community events outside game seasons.
