St. George's Abbey, Stein am Rhein

St. George's Abbey is a Benedictine monastery featuring late Gothic buildings along the Rhine River in Stein am Rhein. The complex includes a 12th-century church, a banquet hall with Renaissance frescoes, and multiple monastic rooms now operating as a museum.

Emperor Henry II relocated the monastery to Stein am Rhein in 997 to control the trade routes at a crucial intersection of river and road networks. The buildings were later expanded during the late medieval period and Renaissance with artistic enhancements.
