Santuario di Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Catholic church in Morbio Inferiore, Switzerland.
The Santuario di Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a church in Morbio Inferiore featuring a single nave and an oval dome that dominates the interior space. Four lateral chapels line the sides while a square presbytery houses a polychrome marble altar at the east end.
Construction began in 1595 on the site of a former oratory dedicated to Saint Bernardino of Siena and the building was consecrated in 1613. The project was initiated following an event from 1594 that drew local attention.
This sanctuary holds the status of a class A Swiss cultural property of national importance and contains a 15th-century fresco depicting Marian devotion in its second chapel. The artwork has maintained spiritual and artistic meaning for the community.
The sanctuary is located on Salita alla Basilica in Morbio Inferiore and is easy to find and reach. Inside, a modern wooden choir loft from 2001 supports worship services and houses a pipe organ.
The sanctuary was founded after two young people experienced healing through a Marian apparition on July 29, 1594. The Silva family donated land following this event, making it possible to build this place of worship.
