Avenches amphitheatre

The amphitheatre is a stone structure with surviving walls, staircases, and axial passages that guided crowds to their seats. A medieval tower stands within its eastern edge and now houses the Roman Museum collection.

The structure was built in the second century as the entertainment center of the Roman city Aventicum. Over time it fell into disuse and was later modified, with the medieval tower marking one phase of this transformation.

The site hosts modern music and cultural festivals that draw crowds throughout the year. These contemporary events bring the ancient structure back to life with performances and gatherings.
