Avenches amphitheatre, Roman amphitheatre in Avenches, Switzerland.
The stone amphitheatre features original walls, stairs, axial entrances, and a medieval tower that now contains the Roman Museum of Avenches.
Built in the second century, this amphitheatre served as the entertainment center of Aventicum, the capital of Roman Helvetia, until the fourth century.
The site hosts the Rock Oz'Arènes music festival in August and the Avenches Tattoo military music festival in September within its ancient walls.
The amphitheatre remains open to visitors from April through October, with guided tours available through the Avenches Tourism office.
A fortified tower from the eleventh century stands at the eastern entrance, constructed by the Bishop of Lausanne using stones from the original structure.
