Heiternplatz

Heiternplatz is a public square with military origins that sits on a hilltop surrounded by lime trees. The grounds feature benches under the trees, level pathways, and views over Zofingen's old town with Alpine peaks visible in the distance.

The square began in 1745 as a military training ground for drills and exercises. It later transformed into a public space while keeping the original lime tree layout from that era.

This place serves as a community gathering spot where outdoor concerts, festivals, and markets happen regularly throughout the year. The old lime trees define its character and draw people to linger and socialize.

The grounds are easy to navigate with benches and well-maintained pathways that have no steep slopes. The closely planted lime trees provide shade and shelter from rain during warmer months.

The geometric arrangement of lime trees creates shifting shadow patterns that change with each season, giving the space different qualities throughout the year. This 18th-century design is uncommon and reveals historical urban planning principles.
