Church St. Antonius, Catholic church building in Bümpliz, Bern, Switzerland.
St. Antonius Church is a Catholic church building in the Bümpliz district featuring a striking bell tower constructed from exposed concrete segments with brown copper sheet cladding. The structure displays modernist architectural design and houses a crypt beneath the altar with travertine marble surfaces.
A church structure built in 1927 was demolished in 1959 to make way for the current building. Architect Hanns Anton Brütsch designed the replacement with modernist principles.
Colored stained glass windows by Heidi Reich fill the interior with biblical scenes and light. Metal artwork by Ernst Jordi adds contemporary artistic elements throughout the space.
The church is located at Morgenstrasse 65 in postal code 3018 and is easily accessible from the surrounding area. Regular services are held and a community center provides facilities for parishioners.
A crypt lies beneath the altar featuring a travertine marble altar block and U-shaped seating arrangement. Biblical-themed glass windows illuminate this hidden space, creating an intimate worship area.
