Corona Arch, Natural stone arch in Grand County, US
Corona Arch is a natural stone arch in Grand County, Utah, located north of Moab on a scenic plateau. The formation features smooth, rounded contours carved from light-colored sandstone layers that shift in appearance throughout the day.
Early residents of the area named the formation and gave it the alternate name Little Rainbow Bridge because of its similar shape to Rainbow Bridge at Lake Powell. The naming reflects how settlers understood the landscape through comparison with other known features.
Native American tribes of the region incorporated natural stone formations like Corona Arch into their traditional stories and land navigation methods.
Access to the site is via a marked trail from Utah State Route 279, which includes metal safety cables on certain steep sections. These fixtures help visitors navigate challenging terrain safely.
Visitors are often surprised to discover they can walk underneath and even through portions of the arch in certain light conditions, revealing an inner structure not obvious from afar. This creates an intimate connection with the landscape that the distant view does not suggest.
