Valencia County spans 1,068 square miles of land in central New Mexico, containing both urban developments and natural landscapes within the Albuquerque Metropolitan area.

The county began its administrative operations on January 9, 1852, and maintained its original boundaries until 1981 when Cibola County separated from its territory.

The population of 76,205 residents represents a mix of Hispanic, Native American, and Anglo communities, reflecting New Mexico's multicultural heritage.
