Grand Junction, County seat in Mesa County, Colorado, United States.
Grand Junction is a city in western Colorado where the Colorado River meets the Gunnison River. The town spreads across the valley floor with views of red rock formations rising on both sides.
The first settlers arrived in the 1880s when the railroad reached the valley and enabled transport of fruit and minerals. The location made the town a crossroads for travelers between the mountains and the western plateau.
The Colorado National Monument and surrounding areas draw outdoor enthusiasts who participate in mountain biking, hiking, and rock climbing throughout the year.
The city sits right on Interstate 70, which runs from Denver to Utah, and has a small airport with connections to larger cities. You can walk through downtown in about half an hour on foot.
The area has more than 20 wineries that grow grapes and produce wine at an elevation of around 1400 meters (4600 feet). This altitude is unusual for winemaking and creates distinct flavor profiles.
