East Canyon State Park, State park and reservoir in Morgan County, United States.
East Canyon State Park is a 608-acre reservoir surrounded by narrow canyon walls in the Uinta Mountain foothills at about 5,700 feet elevation. The water body serves boaters, anglers, and swimmers, while the surrounding rock faces create steep shorelines.
The dam was constructed between 1964 and 1966 as part of the Weber Basin Project and rises 79 meters above its foundation. The structure continues to provide water storage and flood control for the surrounding region.
The park preserves sections of the Mormon Pioneer Trail, a historical route that religious settlers traveled during their migration to Utah. Visitors today can walk along this path and experience the landscape these early travelers crossed.
The park offers 33 RV campsites with full hookups, concrete boat launches, restrooms, and shower facilities for overnight guests. Plan water or hiking activities based on the season, as mountain conditions vary significantly throughout the year.
The park earned International Dark Sky Park designation in 2020, offering exceptional stargazing opportunities. Minimal light pollution allows visitors to see the Milky Way and countless stars with the naked eye.
