Steamboat Ski Resort, Ski resort in northwestern Colorado, United States.
Steamboat Ski Resort is a ski area on Mount Werner with over 3,700 acres of terrain and about 170 trails in various difficulty levels. The mountain is serviced by 21 lifts, including three gondolas and several high-speed chairs, making skiing available day and night.
The area was founded in 1963 as Storm Mountain ski area and renamed in 1965 to honor local Olympian Buddy Werner. This name change marked the beginning of a new era for the location as a recognized ski center.
The resort hosts the Winter Carnival throughout the skiing season, where visitors experience traditional winter sports competitions, parades, and fireworks displays. These events shape life on the mountain and create a festive community feeling.
The terrain offers suitable areas for both beginners and advanced skiers, with trails clearly marked by difficulty level to help with navigation. Visitors should prepare for changing conditions and take advantage of on-site instruction and equipment rentals.
Natural snow conditions here result from Pacific moisture meeting the Rocky Mountains, creating light, dry snow that accumulates reliably throughout the season. This meteorological advantage gives the resort a longer and more dependable winter season than many other ski areas.
