Carlton House, Spanish Colonial Revival residence at United States Air Force Academy, Colorado.
Carlton House is a Spanish Colonial Revival residence on the grounds of the United States Air Force Academy, situated across an expansive wooded estate. The main building and several outbuildings including guest accommodations and equestrian facilities are nestled among pine and evergreen trees, forming a historic residential complex.
The residence was constructed in two building phases during the 1930s and was originally a private home for Mrs. Albert Carlton. After her ownership, the property eventually became part of the Academy and served as the superintendent's official residence.
The property transformed from a private residence to a country club named Pine Valley Club in 1951, later serving as the Academy Superintendent's residence.
The property sits within dense woodlands, with West Monument Creek running along its southern boundary. Visitors should expect a forested landscape with terrain and pathways shaped by the natural environment.
The architecture was designed by Richard Requa and blends straightforward massing elements with rough stonework finished in stucco. This design approach creates subtle structural patterns that reinterpret Spanish Colonial architecture.
