Penticton extends between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake, with residential areas, farms, and vineyards spread across 42 square kilometers at 385 meters elevation.
Thomas Ellis established the first European settlement in 1866, initiating cattle ranching and fruit cultivation before the city received municipal status in 1908.
The name originates from the Okanagan language, referring to the water flow between lakes where Indigenous Syilx people created their meeting grounds.
