Penticton

Penticton is a city between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake in British Columbia, spreading across residential neighborhoods, farms, and vineyards. The development follows the shores of both lakes, with the downtown core closer to the northern lakeshore and park areas lining the waterfront.

Thomas Ellis established the first European settlement in 1866, beginning cattle ranching and fruit cultivation. The city received municipal status in 1908 after agriculture had taken root in the region.

The name originates from the Okanagan language, referring to the water flow between lakes where Indigenous Syilx people created their meeting grounds. This connection to Indigenous history shapes the cityscape through public artworks and memorials honoring the original inhabitants.

The regional airport connects the city to Vancouver, while the South Okanagan Events Centre offers sports events and entertainment throughout the year. The waterfront along both lakes is easily accessible on foot or by bicycle.

Eight craft breweries operate within city limits, establishing the city as the Canadian municipality with the highest concentration of craft breweries per resident. Many of these breweries sit within walking distance of one another, forming an informal route through the downtown core.
